Identification of binary choice models with social interactions

چکیده

This paper provides a set of results on the econometric identifiability of binary choice models with social interactions. Our analysis moves beyond parametric identification results that have been obtained in the literature to consider the identifiability of model parameters when the distribution of random payoff terms is unknown. Further, we consider how identification is affected by the presence of unobservable payoff terms of various types as well as identification in the presence of certain forms of endogenous group membership. Our results suggest that at least partial identification may be achieved under assumptions that in certain contexts may be plausible. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Binary Choice Models with Social Interactions under Heterogeneous Rational Expectations

This paper extends Brock and Durlauf’s models on binary choice with social interactions. In the extended model, an individual will form expected behaviors of peers taking into account their characteristics. The expected behaviors of peers in a group are heterogeneous. The expectations of peers are determined as rational expectations. We consider models in both group and network settings. Endoge...

A Discrete Choice Model of Social Interactions 3 3

The concept of social interactions in economics allows economists to explore applications that are as rich as the social fabric. It also introduces numerous definitional, econometric and measurement issues. The paper aims at introducing the classes of models that accommodate estimation of social interactions and at examining the key areas where significant advances have been made in the identif...

Extension of Logic regression to Longitudinal data: Transition Logic Regression

Logic regression is a generalized regression and classification method that is able to make Boolean combinations as new predictive variables from the original binary variables. Logic regression was introduced for case control or cohort study with independent observations. Although in various studies, correlated observations occur due to different reasons, logic regression have not been studi...

Identification of Social Interactions

While interest in social determinants of individual behavior has led to a rich theoretical literature and many efforts to measure these influences, a mature “social econometrics” has yet to emerge. This chapter provides a critical overview of the identification of social interactions. We consider linear and discrete choice models as well as social networks structures. We also consider experimen...
